SAS Australia's Ant Middleton spills on upcoming TV gig: 'A lot of money'

Regardless of how terrifying he often comes across yelling at the recruits on SAS Australia, there’s no doubt that Ant Middleton has become a much-loved fixture on Australian TV after four seasons of the military training show.

Now, the British adventurer and former soldier and marine is gearing up to host Channel Seven’s next big series: Million Dollar Island.

Yahoo Lifestyle recently spoke with Ant on the red carpet for the Logie Awards where he spilled on the new TV gig and what fans can expect.

“Million Dollar Island is a cross between The Hunger Games and Lost,” he explained.

"I’m sort of like the host/games master, so there are going to be challenges and a lot of money at stake - one million dollars. It’s like a newer, fresher social experiment, but more psychological and more emotional than physical like SAS Australia.

“So we’re going to see a lot of different people, a different cast and a different outcome.”

Ant went on to say that viewers will “absolutely” be seeing a different side of him on the show to the one they’ve gotten to know on SAS Australia.

“I’m going to be more tapping into the psychological side of people, into the emotional side of people, know why they’re here, why they’re doing what they’re doing, why they’re forming alliances, if the money will change their lives,” he detailed.

“So I’m going to dig deeper into their souls, shall we say.”

‘One of the must-watch TV shows of 2023’

It was first announced back in April that Million Dollar Island will be coming to Channel Seven in 2023.

The series, which comes from the creators behind Big Brother and The Voice and launched in the Netherlands in March this year, will see 100 contestants vying to win an enormous cash price on a remote island.

“The game play, strategy, emotion and drama, set in a beautiful, remote location, will make Million Dollar Island one of the must-watch TV shows of 2023,” Angus Ross, Seven’s chief content officer of Entertainment Programming, said in a statement.

Casting for Million Dollar Island is open now, with filming set to take place across 6 weeks at the end of 2022.

Channel Seven is on the hunt for “all types of Australians from all walks of life”, although applicants must be over 18 years old.
