Samantha Armytage opens up about Sunrise departure: 'Rolling the dice'

The TV star hit out at her former job in a candid interview.

She shocked Sunrise viewers when she tearfully announced she was switching the bright lights of TV for the countryside in 2021, and now Sam Armytage has revealed it’s one of the best things she’s ever done.

The 46-year-old stunned morning TV fans when she moved from Sydney to the NSW Southern Highlands with her husband Richard Lavender, after eight years at the helm of the Channel Seven show.

At the time, she explained that she wanted to "take a break and find some peace and calm" after a difficult six months and now she’s said that while it was a huge gamble, it worked out perfectly.

In an interview with The Australian Women’s Weekly, Samantha was asked what her greatest achievement in her life has been, with the star answering: “Rolling the dice and choosing happiness and peace, over a big job.”

On her final day on Sunrise, Sam hit out at the 'snarkiness' and 'bullying' she had faced during her time as host and in the interview, she said the best advice she’s ever received was “that people who bully you, are usually jealous; it doesn't matter whether your 16, or 46”.

In a farewell post on Instagram, Sam thanked viewers for watching her and Kochie over the years.

"It’s time to start the next chapter, but I will never forget how wonderful our @sunriseon7 viewers were to me. See you soon," she said.

Since her departure from the show, Samantha had been working on her podcast, Something To Talk About, for Stellar magazine.

However, the allure of the TV studio was apparently never far from Sam's eyes, with the star quitting her podcast and becoming the new host of the Farmer Wants A Wife dating show in 2023.

“A little ‘news’ from me for 2023; I’ve made a decision to farewell the Something to Talk About podcast this year,” Samantha wrote on Instagram.

“I’ve chatted and interviewed my way through the past 2 years and loved every minute. THANK YOU to all you lovely people who tuned in weekly & to all you fabulous interviewees!!!

“I’m still writing my monthly column for @stellarmag - which I LOVE. Now it’s time for other challenges and side hustles: watch this space.”
