Robert Pattinson ‘positive for coronavirus’, Batman filming halted

Robert Pattinson has reportedly tested positive for coronavirus, causing production of The Batman to come to a standstill just three days after they resumed filming due to the pandemic.

Sources have revealed to Vanity Fair that the star contracted the virus and while Warner Bros wouldn't confirm who had the virus, they told the publication: "A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols. Filming is temporarily paused."

It was "a highly placed source" who reportedly confirmed to the publication that it was indeed the Twilight star who became sick.

Production of the film came to a halt when most of the entire entertainment industry did in March earlier this year when COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic.

Daily Mail revealed that cast and crew were sent home after a member of the production tested positive for the virus.

An insider working at the studio said: "We have been sent a memo telling us that a member of the crew has had a positive Covid-19 test.

"Everyone was talking on the set about it. We do not know who has tested positive, but it has caused chaos to the schedule."

The shutdown will no doubt cost Warner Bros hundreds of thousands of dollars and it may delay the film's release, which is currently set at October 2021.

There are still three months of shooting left to be completed.

The source added: "We have all been told to stand down until further notice and we are not expecting to be back filming for at least two weeks."

They then joked that it was ironic The Batman had to stop production due to coronavirus, which is thought to have originated from bats.

"There is an irony to all this in that you would think Batman would be immune seeing as it all started from bats," they said.

Robert stars alongside Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone and Paul Dano as the Riddler.

Colin Farrell's makeup as The Penguin was so realistic that not even his own castmates recognised him.

Jeffrey Wright called Colin's transformation "incredible" in an interview on The Jess Cagle Show.

"Colin walked on to set one day and I walked right passed him [laughs] I was like, 'OK, hey dude what’s happening, where’s Colin? Are we going to shoot?' It was, it’s pretty remarkable."

The transformation was seen in the recently released teaser trailer.
