Yahoo Lifestyle “I Wish I Was The Father In My 20s That You Needed”: Rob Schneider Apologized To His Daughter, Elle King, After Her Brutal Claims About His “Toxic” Parenting
As you may know, singer Elle King is the daughter of former model London King and comedian Rob Schneider.
Over the years, Elle has said that she and her dad haven’t always had a great relationship. And this week, while appearing on Bunnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast, the 35-year-old shared more than ever before about their complicated dynamic.
“I disagree with a lot of the things that he says,” she said, referring to his controversial beliefs about religion and politics. “You’re talking out of your ass and you’re talking shit about drag and, you know, anti-gay rights and it’s like get fucked... He’s just talking out of his ass and I want to use this opportunity to say that I disagree. I do not agree with what he says.”
As well as distancing herself from Rob politically, Elle recalled the shaming she experienced as a child, revealing her father sent her to a “fat camp.”
“I was, like, a really, really heavy child. My dad sent me to fat camp,” she said. “And then I got in trouble one year because I sprained my ankle, and, I didn’t lose any weight.”
Calling his attitude “very toxic and very silly,” she also said: “My dad forgot about every single birthday. I spent my 18th birthday in a summer school and they brought me cupcakes and I came home and my dad forgot my birthday.”
At one point in the interview, Elle also explicitly said that she doesn’t want to be “associated with him” because he’s “not nice.”
“He also didn’t have a very good reputation,” she said, shutting down accusations that he helped in any way with her music career. “You can want someone to change so much. You can’t control anyone else’s actions, you can’t control people’s feelings. All you can control is how you react and what you do with your feelings. And sometimes I fucking boil up, and I boil over, and I fucking bust my lid.”
Notably, Elle said that she’d received angry and berating phone calls from Rob when she publicly discussed their relationship in the past.
It’ll come as no surprise to hear that her brutally honest comments garnered a lot of attention online — particularly in light of the fact that Rob recently made headlines for claiming that a portion of the Olympics opening ceremony featuring drag queens was “openly” celebrating Satan.
“I never want to see families torn apart but I am very glad to hear her say this,” one BuzzFeed reader commented on a post about Elle’s podcast appearance. “I am happy to hear she does not share his sentiments. He’s trash to me.”
“This is so disappointing. I grew up on his movies. But fuck him!” added another.
And now, Rob has spoken out to express his remorse, telling Tucker Carlson in a recent interview that he hopes Elle “can forgive” him for his “shortcomings” as a father.
“It’s fun being a parent, isn’t it?” he said, making light of the recent headlines. “Well, I just want to tell my daughter, Elle, I love you and I wish I was the father in my 20s that you needed. Clearly, I wasn’t. I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings. I love you completely, and I love you entirely.”
Referring to Elle’s son, he continued: “I just want you to be well and happy with you and your beautiful baby, Lucky. I wish you the best. I feel terrible. I just want you to know I don’t take anything you say personally.”
Carlson then asked how Rob was able to refrain from hitting back at Elle’s comments, to which he said: “If you love someone completely. … I love her, all I want for her is to be happy and to heal from this.”
Elle has yet to respond, but we’ll let you know if she does.
