Rita Ora in the season 13 premiere of 'The Masked Singer'When The Masked Singer returns this Wednesday on Fox, fans can expect things to be "just really chaotic, but beautiful and fun and emotional" with talent that's "how did you get this person-type of insane."
This is according to panelist Rita Ora, who returns to the judges' desk for a third time (on the U.S. version of the show anyways). Ahead, Entertainment Weekly sat down with the singer and actress to preview the 13th season of the long-running disguised singing celebrities show, including what to expect from "naughty kid in class" character Lucky Duck, how she fares with her guesses this season, what to expect from the competition as a whole, and more.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: This season will feature a new character, Lucky Duck, and Fox has already teased they might have a connection to someone on the show, similar to season 5's Cluedle-Doo. So I really just have one question: Is Lucky Duck your husband, Taika Waititi?
RITA ORA: [Laughs.] I dunno. I mean, I wish. The thing is, I love this show. I literally feel like I know the producers enough now to kind of guess what they're up to, but genuinely they surprise me every single season, and I feel like obviously Jenny's husband [Donnie Wahlberg] was a part of a surprise a while back, so I'm just going to have to keep you guys guessing. But there was a lot of behavioral clues that I think might give a couple things away. It's such a great family show and it's obviously something I love about the show because it's always a loved one or you know the person who's behind the mask. So let's just wait and see, I guess.

Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora in season 13 premiere of 'The Masked Singer'Related: Everything to know about The Masked Singer season 13: From a wild new character to a 'lucky' theme
Since Lucky Duck is one of the main new features of season 13, what can you tell us about what exactly he gets up to in the new episodes?
Well, I think misbehaving, mischievous, popping in random moments, sort of ruining people's getting ready before their performance. It's just a naughty kid in class, which is very similar to Taika, though. [Laughs.]
Fox is dubbing this the "Lucky 13" season — does that theme actually factor through the season as a whole?
It definitely plays into the episodes. The individual themes are definitely based all around different situations, but the Lucky 13 is the heartbeat I think of the whole season. We've had so much fun this year with the themes and the costumes, and again, the surprises. So it's just another element of craziness, but it's just full of life and laughter and heartwarming moments. And me and the panelists [Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg], I feel like we just get closer and closer every season and it's truly a joy to do this show. It just doesn't feel like work.
It really feels like you've been there all along now.
Yeah, I mean I think I love to be able to come in with a different perspective and coming from more of an international perspective and seeing all the different elements of people's talent, from acting to singing to being fashion icons to models, and I kind of do all of that. So I love to guess outside of the box. I try my best to make sure I do a guess that the other guys don't think of.

Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora on season 12 of 'The Masked Singer'Speaking of, how do you do this season, guess-wise? Better or worse than past seasons?
I think I'm a bit more free this season. I think I've become a bit more like, you know what, if I don't know it then I'm fine, I'm just going to go with my gut. And I feel like that's the most sincere approach. Whereas Jenny, who I take a lot of advice from, she kind of connects the dots from all the previous clues and then what she gets that week and the following week, and I always say to myself, okay, I'm going to do the journey this season [like Jenny], and then I just always end up doing the opposite.
You're a bit more fly by the seat of your pants.
But I'm very vocal when I think it's somebody that I'm a huge fan of, and I start reciting their lyrics or talking about moments in their career that only real true stans will know. You know what I mean? And some of them I've guessed, not even on this season, but previous seasons from fanning over their work and I've been right, and then they take their mask off and I'm like, "I'm so sorry that I seem insane that I know so much about you. I'm such a fan." But yeah, it's also one of those things where you do meet artists that you love and you're like, wow, this show has brought us together. There's moments where you're like I can't believe I'm meeting you on this show. So it's really exciting.
Like with Mario last season.
Yeah, this season I think I'm going to beat that though.
Wow. I've heard that the celebrities on this season are really impressive.
Yeah, I mean it's definitely, "how did you get this person-type of insane," especially me kind of being a fan of — there's a specific person. I can't obviously say it right now, but it's crazy how this happened. And I mean, I know everything about this person as a fan of this person. So yeah, you'll see that. I think it'll be very obvious once you see it.

Lucky Duck on season 13 of 'The Masked Singer'What aspect of the season are you most excited for fans to see?
I think just trying to guess who is under the masks, because I feel like this season it's going to be such a surprise. I don't feel like people are going to get them as easily as they usually do, especially with all the new tricks that the producers have up their sleeves this season. So it's going to keep everyone on their toes and it's so fun. The music is better than ever, all the song choices, and they just keep upping it every single season. The costumes. Yeah, it's just really chaotic, but beautiful and fun and emotional, and all of the emotions. I'm so happy to talk about Masked Singer. It doesn't feel like work.
