Queen to cut back on commitments as difficult year continues: 'Suffered a lot'

The Queen is set to cut back on duties for the remainder of the year it has been reported, after she was spotted using her walking stick during recent royal outings.

Her Majesty, 95, sparked some concerns last week when she used a walking stick for the first time in nearly 20 years while attending a Royal British Legion Service at Westminster Abbey, and then again two days later during a visit to Wales for the opening of the Welsh Parliament.

It is now believed that her courtiers will ensure she walks less at public engagements and avoids steps and cobbles, as well as making sure her car pulls up closer to venues.

Between the death of her husband Prince Philip, the controversy surrounding Prince Andrew's relationship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, as well as the ongoing fall out from Harry and Meghan's departure from the royal family, there has been a lot for the Queen to deal with.

"The Queen has suffered a lot this year, including the death of her beloved husband," a source told The Sun.

"She is becoming a little less resilient and needs a little more help — although she is doing well for somebody of her age.

"Her courtiers have noticed the Queen becoming more weary and perhaps more fragile than she was — and who could be surprised?"

It comes after it was also reported that doctors have advised the monarch to give up drinking alcohol except for special occasions.

According to an insider who spoke to Vanity Fair, she did enjoy a glass of wine with dinner and a drink before bed, with her preferred choice being a dry martin.

"The Queen has been told to give up her evening drink which is usually a martini," the source told the publication

"It’s not really a big deal for her, she is not a big drinker but it seems a trifle unfair that at this stage in her life she’s having to give up one of very few pleasures.

"Her doctors want to make sure she is as fit and healthy as possible."

It has also been claimed the Queen is planning to host a smaller Christmas gathering this year.

She is also currently looking for a cleaner for Buckingham Palace. The vacancy, which is listed on the palace's website until 20 October, asks for someone who can work for 20 to 40 hours a week, Monday to Sunday, including some evening shifts.

While experience isn't necessary, the job says that cleaning must be done to the "highest of standards."
