Several popular vitamins and perinatal products, including those for preconception, are being recalled due to either a lack of or excessive levels of potassium iodine. The products included in the recall are from Bio Concepts, NRC Nutrition and Naternal Vitamins.

According to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), mild cases of iodine toxicity can cause "diarrhoea, burning sensation in the mouth, fever, nausea and vomiting." But in severe cases, it can be quite dangerous and may cause "swelling of airways, cyanosis, weak pulse or coma".

In some cases, you may be receiving too little iodine from these products, in which case you may wish to consult a healthcare professional if using this product on their advice.

If you have any of the affected batches, stop use of the product immediately, and return to the place of purchase for a refund.
