Aldi customers warned to stop using popular product that can cause 'severe illness'
After a product recall, a food safety expert tells Yahoo Lifestyle the dangers of consuming the contaminated products.
Aldi customers have been warned to stop using a popular product over fears that it can cause 'severe illness'. According to Food Standards Australia and New Zealand, several different Fresh Salad Co bagged salad items have been recalled as they may contain Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC).
Edward McCartney of Food Safety Plus tells Yahoo Lifestyle that STEC, a type of E. coli, "can produce severe illness in children, the elderly and those with a compromised immune system. Some people can develop liver failure and other conditions which require hospitalisation." He adds, "Infected people can spread the illness for up to three weeks.
"It's a nasty bacteria."
