Princess Beatrice’s Daughter Has a Surprising Title
And her cousins don’t get the honor.
The royal family is full of very cute kids. Some of them are princes (see: Princes Louis, George, and Archie) and there are princesses, like Charlotte and Lilibet, but one has a very special distinction thanks to her dad's family. Sienna, Princess Beatrice's daughter, has the distinction of having a special Italian title thanks to her father, Edoardo Mozzi. According to The Mirror, Sienna has a title that her cousins August and Ernest (the children of Beatrice's sister, Eugenie), won't inherit because their father doesn't come from a noble line.
Before Beatrice and Edoardo's royal wedding in 2020, the groom's father, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, told the Daily Mail, "Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation. He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically, and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna."
In addition to being a princess, Beatrice became a countess and nobile donna when she got married. "Nobile donna" translates to "noble woman," according to The Independent. The Mozzi family was part of the Italian nobility before the country became a republic in 1946. While they retain their titles, the members of the Mozzi family don't use them in their everyday lives.
Beatrice and Eugenie's children don't have British titles, because they're not grandchildren of the monarch. Their relation to the crown is one layer beyond that, as King Charles is their great-uncle.
Sienna was born in September 2021 and celebrated her third birthday today. According to the Daily Mail, Beatrice and Edoardo have managed to keep photos of Sienna to a minimum and like many high-profile parents, keep her face obscured when posting about her on social media.
"Sienna is absolutely gorgeous and looks exactly like Bea. She's really cheeky and has a very good personality," a close friend told Tatler. "Bea has such a good heart and she's such a kind person, so motherhood came very naturally to her; she's a fantastic mum."
