Prince Harry announces return to the UK before anniversary of Queen's death

The estranged royal will be returning home for a short time next month.

Prince Harry has announced that he will be returning to the UK for a charity event, which coincides with the one-year anniversary of the Queen’s death.

The Duke of Sussex, who hasn’t been back to London since King Charles’ coronation in May, shared a statement this week that he will be attending the WellChild Awards on September 7.

Harry has been patron of the children’s charity since 2007 and has attended the WellChild Awards 11 times, including twice with his wife Meghan Markle in both 2018 and 2019. However, it’s unknown if she will attend this year as she was not mentioned in his statement.

“For nearly 20 years, WellChild has been transforming the lives of children and young people across the UK, providing critical care that prioritises the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of these individuals and their families,” Harry said.

“The courage and strength embodied by these young people – and the tireless devotion of those who support them – never cease to inspire me. I’m honoured to attend this year’s awards ceremony and celebrate their incredible work.”

While it’s unclear whether Harry will stay in London for the anniversary, it’s unlikely he will see his father during his visit as King Charles recently arrived at Balmoral Castle in Scotland for a three-week summer vacation.

Harry will then travel to Düsseldorf, Germany for the annual Invictus Games on September 9, where he is expected to be joined by Meghan.

'No chance'

It was reported earlier this week that royal staff are trying to organise a meeting between Harry and Charles in mid-September before Harry travels back to California following the Invictus Games.

However, Daily Beast has claimed that both Charles and Prince William are opposed to reuniting with their estranged family member.

“Charles won’t be seeing Harry and nor will William. No chance,” a source told the US publication.“He feels utterly betrayed by what Harry wrote about him in the book and said about him on Netflix.”
