Power Suiting Is Trending at Sundance Film Festival 2025: Tessa Thompson, Cynthia Erivo, Glenn Close and More
After trending on the red carpet in 2024, power suiting is still going strong. Tailored looks were one of the biggest style takeaways at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
The film festival, which kicked off in Park City, Utah this past Thursday, Jan. 23, brought a parade of suited looks to the red carpet. Celebrities such as Tessa Thompson, Cynthia Erivo, and Glenn Close put forth their own takes on the trending look.

Tessa Thompson
Tessa Thompson added edge to the power suit with a pair of scrunched up leather gloves. Thompson wore them with a boxy pinstriped suit that consisted of a double-breasted jacket and a pair of wide-leg trousers. The actress also embraced the sheer trend in a see-through button-down shirt.
Cynthia Erivo
Cynthia Erivo continued her method dressing spree while promoting “Wicked,” by channeling Elphaba in a sculptural skirt suit. Erivo wore a sculptural jacquard jacket off her shoulders that was sashed at the waist with a trailing leather belt. She paired her blazer with an ankle-grazing pencil skirt, a pair of tonal suede Christian Louboutin platform boots with a stiletto heel, diamond-encrusted layered hoop earrings, and a gem-topped manicure loaded with emeralds, gold tones, and rhinestones.
Glenn Close
Glenn Close wore a sleek take on power suiting in an elongated blazer and leather pants. Close paired her jacket and trousers with a winged collar shirt that featured a lavallière.
Robin Tunney
Robin Tunney made a statement in a purple tweed suit. Tunney paired her suit with a floral collage shirt buttoned to the top.
Heidi Ewing
Filmmaker Heidi Ewing, and co-director of the 2006 documentary “Jesus Camp,” wore a floral take on power suiting. Ewing paired Alice + Olivia’s timeless blossom pants and jacket with a tiered statement necklace.
Marlee Matlin
Marlee Matlin opted to wear a skirt suit consisting of separates. The actress wore a tweed double-breasted blazer with a pleated asymmetrical midi skirt and leather boots.
