Peyton List Wonders 'Am I Even Dead?' in “School Spirits” Season 2 Trailer, Which Teases Milo Manheim Hookup
The second season of the Paramount+ comedic thriller premieres Thursday, Jan. 30
Maddie Nears might just be back from the dead.
In the first trailer for season 2 of School Spirits, released by Paramount+ on Tuesday, Jan. 21, Maddie (Peyton List) contends with the fact that Janet (Jess Gabor) took over her body.
“Maybe Janet’s just the beginning,” List's character Maddie says. “I thought my life was over, stuck between the real world and the afterlife. But the real question is, am I even dead?”
Season 1 of the supernatural series ended with high school student Maddie finding out how she died and learning that fellow ghost Janet possessed her body.
“Maddie, or at least her spirits, it’s trapped,” Maddie’s BFF Simon (Kristian Ventura) explains in the trailer. “But her body, we have to help her get it back.”
Claire (Rainbow Wedell) deems that “legit freaky.”
The supernatural students have their suspicions about the intentions of Mr. Martin (Josh Zuckerman).
“Mr. Martin’s been keeping tabs on us,” Wally (Milo Manheim) asserts.
Rhonda (Sarah Yarkin) agrees. “He’s been collecting the stuff we all had with us when we died,” she says.
As a result, Wally, who can be seen making out with Maddie in the trailer, decides, “I don’t know what the truth is any more.”

List, 26, previously told PEOPLE that season 2 of School Spirits will pick up right where the first installment left off.
“Maddie finally finds out what happened to her, and that Janet, a ghost from group from the '50s, she supposedly moved on,” she said. “And then you realize that while Maddie was in this emotionally low place, Janet ended up inhabiting her body and going out into the world. And that's exactly where season two picks up is explaining exactly what happened and how that was even possible. And then it follows a lot of Janet and her journey.”
The Cobra Kai star teased that upcoming season takes on “a much darker tone” than the first. "It's much more intense than I was expecting it to be,” List said.
Although Maddie struggles to understand Janet’s motives in the show, List enjoys working with Gabor, 28.
“She was so fun to work with,” List said of Gabor. “We would work together on the weekends and whenever we had time, so we were spending a lot of time with each other. She's so great.”
The former Disney Channel star also serves as an executive producer on School Spirits. “If I am going to lead a show, there has to be a certain level of safety and comfort,” List said. “I don't feel comfortable unless I'm able to collaborate. If I do have the label of producer, then it's much more collaborative, and that is really all I wanted.”
