Peter Helliar reveals major I'm A Celebrity weight loss after eviction

The former Project host left the show on Tuesday night.

Peter Helliar left I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! on Tuesday night, with many fans wondering how much weight he'd lost during his time in the jungle, following Nick 'Honey Badger' Cummins' staggering 8kg weight loss in just under two weeks.

The comedian revealed his weight loss during an interview with B105’s Stav, Abby and Matt, telling them, "Seven and a half[kg], I registered, I'm not sure if I caught up with Nick, but yeah, seven and a half k's off the rig, so I'll have to work that back on!"

"It'll be the flight on the way back home that I'll put it all back on," he joked, after revealing his first meal out of the jungle was spaghetti bolognese and a few beers.

"You come out and you kind of have this idea that you're going to go back to a hotel and have a beer, but you meet with a psych for half an hour, you meet with a medical team to make sure everything's OK. So there's a series of meetings you have to go through, so I haven't really stopped since I've come out, I had some dinner and rang home and that's about it."

Pete also revealed all the contestants met with the psychologist before they went on the show, adding that the mental health professional is available throughout the show for contestants.

The hosts questioned Pete, asking how many times he'd said no to being on the show, with the presenter admitting he'd turned it down a few times.

The comedian added that, for him, it wasn't "really an option" to go on I'm A Celebrity previously because he was hosting The Project.

"In fact, whenever they did ask, I was a bit concerned they were trying to get me off The Project," he said with a laugh. "But the offer came through, obviously they had the inside word that I was leaving The Project, so they rang and we had a good chat and I just kind of thought, 'Why not? I haven't got the excuse of the other job,' so I jumped in and I had a great time, to be honest, if anyone gets a chance to do it I wholeheartedly recommend it."

When asked why he left The Project and whether it was to do with the news cycle and how tough it can be to constantly be reporting on "terrible" news, he said it played a role.

"It wasn't the reason I left," he said, adding, "I remember saying to Waleed [Aly] and Lisa [Wilkinson] around August that I was getting a little sick of being associated with the news cycle, and that's got nothing to do with the show, but just the way commentary goes these days. And news has become pretty toxic, as far as the debate around news, and so I'm pretty happy to be going into some sillier, fun areas in the future.

"I loved my time on The Project, I love the people that work on it, I hope it goes forever. But ten years is a good run, and when [I'm A Celebrity] came up it was kind of perfect, because it was something that made me a little bit uncomfortable, but it's also a family show, it's fun, it's silly and at times terrifying."

Peter announced his departure from The Project in November last year two days after Lisa Wilkinson announced she was leaving.
