Paul Sorvino, Goodfellas and Law & Order star, dies aged 83

Actor Paul Sorvino, who starred in Goodfellas and Law & Order, has died at the age of 83.

Sorvino's wife Dee Dee Sorvino was with him when he passed away from natural causes at the Mayo Clinic in Florida, according to The New York Post.

"Our hearts are broken, there will never be another Paul Sorvino, he was the love of my life, and one of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen and stage," she said.


Dee Dee also took to Twitter to write, "I am completely devastated. The love of my life & the most wonderful man who has ever lived is gone. I am heartbroken."

The actor was father to Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino, who took to Twitter to write, "My father the great Paul Sorvino has passed. My heart is rent asunder- a life of love and joy and wisdom with him is over. He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. I’m sending you love in the stars Dad as you ascend."

He was also father to daughter Amanda Sorvino and son Michael Sorvino.

Sorvino was most famous for his role as gangster Paulie Cicero in Goodfellas and for playing policeman Phil Cerretta on Law & Order.

He previously opened up to the Orlando Weekly about how the image of him in Goodfellas has followed him throughout his career, "Most people think I’m either a gangster or a cop or something."

"The reality is I’m a sculptor, a painter, a best-selling author, many, many things — a poet, an opera singer, but none of them is gangster... It would be nice to have my legacy more than that of just tough guy."

The actor originally studied music and wanted to be an opera singer before he began acting.

Other credits include The Panic in Needle Park, The Gambler, The Brink's Job, Dick Tracy, Romeo + Juliet and many more.

Sorvino has a string of films that have yet to be released, including Pursued, The Ride, and My Jurassic Place, which was still in the filming stages according to IMDb.
