Olivia Wilde dons wedding gown for friend's wedding: 'Desperate'

The star stole the show in an expensive designer dress.

Olivia Wilde has shocked fans after turning up to a wedding wearing a white wedding gown. While it’s a common unspoken rule to avoid wearing white as a guest, Harry Styles' ex went all out in a silky ivory designer number.

The 39-year-old was invited to The Bachelor US star Colton Underwood’s extravagant wedding to Jordan Brown in California, and she shared a few snaps on social media. Olivia’s Nili Lotan gown didn’t come cheap, with a retail price close to $2,850 AUD. The '90s-styled neckline and open back flattered her figure at the outdoor ceremony held in Napa Valley.

However, she assured followers that she had sought permission from the two grooms before turning up in her slinky gown.

She shared a snap on Instagram showing off her outfit while using a white parasol to block out some of the sun. She had her hair loose in subtle waves, and she looked chic with a pair of black sunglasses.

“Wore a wedding dress to a wedding just so I could make a joke about it in my toast,” she wrote alongside the photo.

In another snap with the happy couple, she was seen hugging Colton with a drink in her hand. To get ahead of any backlash, she added a simple comment above the photo that read: “The grooms approved.”

The Booksmart director’s bold choice divided fans online, with some labelling her as ‘attention-seeking and rude’.

“Olivia Wilde showing up to her friend’s wedding in a white silk wedding gown is…desperate,” one person tweeted. “She says she thought it would be funny to talk about in her speech.”

“Why would you do that, that’s weird asf,” another wrote.

“This is like the one thing you don’t do at a wedding,” a third chimed in.

“I stayed neutral through [the] Don’t Worry Darling [drama] AND the salad recipe but this is the final straw for me,” another quipped.

Others defended the star and slammed those with negative opinions.

“She’s clearly joking and the happy couple clearly had no issues with her dress. Stop setting her up for unnecessary hate,” a fan hit out.

“I think it’s funny bc it’s two grooms, and she obviously wanted to be funny in her toast, the grooms approved too. Why are y’all so mad if they’re not,” another wrote.

“Why are people mad? It’s not like there was a bride to wear the wedding dress?” a third pointed out.

“This woman is glowing. I literally never saw her happier!” another remarked.
