Night Agent Boss Explains Season 2 Premiere’s Brittany Snow Twist
The following contains spoilers from the first episode of The Night Agent Season 2, all of which is now streaming on Netflix.
If you were excited to see Brittany Snow play a savvy FBI agent in Season 2 of the Netflix hit The Night Agent, that American dream was rudely dashed when, not 10 minutes into the first episode, her character was shot dead by some bad guys, while working an op with Peter Sutherland in Bangkok.

The casting of Snow, along with TV vet Teddy Sears, was given big play when announced over a year ago. And as Season 2 opened (all 10 episodes are now streaming on Netflix), it was a delight to see her Alice enjoy a fun, professional repartee with new-ish Night Action recruit Peter.
But when Alice peeled off to tail a mystery man (Solomon, played by Berto Colon), while Peter followed Sears’ Warren, the ending was far from pitch perfect for the former. For just as she and a relieved Peter reconnected, Alice took a bullet in the back from Solomon, who then put another into her slumped body for fiendishly good measure.
TVLine asked Night Agent showrunner about that shocking, season-opening rug pull, and he said the idea all along was to cast Alice in such a way that her abrupt death meant something to Peter, and viewers.
“The idea of having this recognizable face is a bit of a shortcut, because so many people know Brittany and they like Brittany,” Ryan noted. “They love her from the Pitch Perfect movies, and she’s had this career playing these very likable characters.
“Bringing in audience history to an actor and sort of jujitsu-ing it to make you care quicker about her than you might if it was somebody more unrecognizable was useful to us,” the EP continued. “Because then we can put ourselves in Peter’s shoes a little bit more when he sees her get killed.”
SPOILER ALERT FOR EPISODES 2 THROUGH 10!
Perhaps you, as this reporter did, half-suspected that Alice hadn’t really been killed — after all, we never saw any bullet wounds, and it was later revealed that she was conveniently cremated. Maybe, instead, it was all a ruse because she was a mole of some sort and in cahoots with the bad guys. Alas, save for Episode 2 flashbacks to her early training of Peter, Alice/Snow was not seen again.
But if you mulled such a misdirect for any instant, Ryan is quite pleased.
Having led viewers to think that way with The Night Agent‘s first twisty season, “One of the things I love about this show is that we’ve set an expectation that you don’t know what to expect,” he said.
