Neighbours' Madeleine West sparks return rumours with new selfie

Australian actress Madeleine West has debuted a major hair transformation on social media looking remarkably similar to her characters on Neighbours.

The 42-year-old, who played blondes Dee Bliss and Andrea Somers on the show between 2000 to 2003 and 2017 to 2020, took to Instagram earlier this week to show off her new look.

While she’s spent the past few years as a brunette, Madeleine has now dyed her hair a much lighter colour.

“2023! Slowly stepping out of the darkness, into the light. Literally…” she captioned a selfie showing off her wavy strawberry blonde tresses.

Madeleine’s followers quickly took to the comments to wish her a happy New Year and compliment her new hairstyle.

“Lovely smile and beautiful hair. Bring on the new year!” one person wrote, followed by another who added, “Wow you look amazing”.

“You look so gorgeous as a blonde,” a third remarked, while someone else replied, “Stunner - regardless of hair colour”.

Meanwhile, others speculated that the hair change could have something to do with a potential return to Neighbours.

“Gorgeous as always! But is that blonde on the way back to Dee blonde?” one fan asked.

“Are you going blonde again because you're returning to Neighbours in 2023?” a different user questioned.

'Should the girls come back?'

Madeleine’s post comes just a few months after she sparked rumours of a potential return to the soap opera that helped launch her TV career.

She shared a photo of her characters Dee and Andrea on Instagram alongside the caption: “Should the girls come back?

“They were a no-show at the finale… where have they been?” she added. “What have they been doing? I’d love to hear your thoughts…”

Although Neighbours aired its star-studded final episode in July last year, it was announced in November that the show would be making a bombshell return after Fremantle managed to find a new broadcast partner.

The revamped soap will return to its former home Channel 10, and US and UK fans will be available to stream it for free on Amazon Freevee. Australian and New Zealand fans will also be able to stream the show ad-free on Prime Video, one week after the free-to-air viewing on Channel 10.
