Mum's savvy Kmart hack using $15 item goes viral: ‘So clever'
Her bright idea has inspired many other shoppers.
Kmart’s Easter range has been a big hit with shoppers, but one crafty mum has transformed a simple tablecloth into a unique outfit for her child.
Mum-of-two Skye Langeberg took Kmart’s $15 Easter Tablecloth and turned it into a gorgeous collared shirt. The material’s bouncy Easter bunnies and floral details looked incredible on the finished product.
She shared the snaps of her work-in-progress on a popular Kmart Facebook group, writing: “Tablecloth to Easter shirts for the kids. Need to finish off with buttons and a couple things to improve on the next one!”

Her post went viral, attracting over 1,800 reactions, and she tells Yahoo Lifestyle she “wasn’t expecting that at all”. Skye is currently studying Fashion Design at Curtin University, so the process was relatively “easy” for her.
“I have made and designed dress shirts before… however with a two and four-year-old, I don’t have a lot of free time, especially to draft a new pattern from scratch,” she explains. “I used a pattern by StyleArc called Rhys Overshirt. It’s a great little pattern, highly recommend [it]! I altered it a little and constructed it from my memory of making previous shirts.”
Kmart fans react to the ‘amazing’ hack
Many parents praised the mum for her out-of-the-box thinking and sewing skills. “So clever and so beautifully made. What a talent you have,” one Kmart shopper wrote. “Lucky kids, I hope they appreciate the work you put into creating this. Well done! I only wish I was so talented.”
“This makes me so excited to start my sewing classes, they look amazing!” another added.
“Oh I just clicked YOU MADE THESE??? Oh my gosh they are damn gorgeous,” a third chimed in.
“Someone paid attention in fabrics class! Well done!” another commented.
Others begged the mum to turn her skill into a side hustle, with one saying: “Wow you could sell these to people like me. Very cute and clever.”
