MTV VMAs 2024: Racy new trend takes off on the red carpet

The MTV VMAs red carpet is known as one of the wildest red carpets of the year, so it comes as no surprise to see stars going all out for the event this year. The awards show is taking place in New York's UBS Arena and stars like Katy Perry and Paris Hilton have surprised fans with the racy wet look this year.

Fans are loving the looks on the red carpet, with many praising Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan in particular. Fans are also watching closely to see if Sabrina will have a run-in with her ex Shawn Mendes and his ex Camila Cabello following the release of her single ‘Taste’, which references Shawn breaking up with her to go back to Camila.

Katy Perry

Katy showed off her fit figure with an asymmetrical bra and matching skirt, which some fans on X described as looking like "toilet paper". And it didn't stop there, the pop star even had a QR code 'tattooed' on her back that takes people to a link allowing them to pre-save her album.

"Katy Perry wearing a fake tattoo of a QR code that takes you to the 143 Pre-save site, she's so unserious," one fan joked.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift absolutely stunned in her plaid dress, which she wore over black hot pants. It was definitely one of her more daring looks and fans loved it, with one X user writing, "I AM ON THE FLOOR."

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton also followed the wet-look trend with her ripped silver sequinned gown.

Addison Rae

Addison Rae might not have followed the wet look trend, but she certainly went for a racy look in this number.

Chappell Roan

Chappell Roan appeared to be channelling Edward Scissorhands and Joan of Arc with her VMAs look. The singer revealed that the robe she wore was 300 years old.

The star also hit back at a photographer on the carpet who told her to "shut the f**k up," telling him the same thing:

Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter went for an old-school Hollywood glamour look for the evening, wearing archival Bob Mackie that Madonna wore at the 1991 Oscars.

Sabrina later sent the crowd wild as she kissed an alien during her performance of her latest single 'Taste':

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion looked very demure on the red carpet, before changing into an outfit to recreate one of Britney Spears' most iconic VMAs moments with a snake and everything!

Camila Cabello

Camila Cabello went for a racy naked dress for the event. No doubt fans will be watching to see if she, her ex, Shawn Mendes, and his ex, Sabrina Carpenter, interact (confusing, I know).

Tate McRae

Tate McRae also chose to show off some skin in a see-through mini dress, which she wore over black lingerie.
