Creative director Matthieu Blazy was announced as Chanel’s selection for its new fashion creative director on Thursday after serving at the helm of Bottega Veneta since November 2021. Obama, who was promoting her new book “Overcoming: A Workbook,” chatted with the eponymous talk show host about shopping for her husband, former president Barack Obama, and tapping her stylist Meredith Koop for gift giving advice.
“I’m trying to get him clothes he wouldn’t buy because he’s also cheap,” Obama said. “If it’s a really nice jacket, I’m like, ‘don’t look at the price.’ He’s like, ‘why did you spend so much on a jacket.’ I was like, ‘that’s what a gift is.’”
Obama added that she often looks to her stylist Koop for guidance on what to get her daughters, Sasha and Malia.
“The true best gift giver happens to be my stylist, Meredith, because I ask her, ‘what do the girls want?’ I’m not out there shopping like you guys, it’s not like I can drive by the mall and shut it down. All of you would be mad, there would be traffic stops, but I’m the one who organizes gift giving, so I’m the one who makes Christmas happen.”
