This Is The “One And Only Time” The “Sex And The City” Cast Were Allowed To Ad-Lib Their Lines — And The Reason Why Is Kind Of Wholesome

In case you missed it, Sex and the City star Kristin Davis launched a brand new podcast earlier this month called Are You a Charlotte? — a tribute to her iconic HBO character Charlotte York.

In the same episode, Kristin also opened up about the “one and only time” that she and her castmates were allowed to ad-lib during filming — and shared the wholesome reason why.

“I hate my thighs,” Charlotte begins. “I can’t even open a magazine without thinking: ‘Thighs, thighs, thighs.'”

“Well, I’ll take your thighs and raise you a chin,” Miranda counters.

“Well, I’ll take your chin and raise you a—” Carrie then replies, gesturing at her nose.

Samantha, meanwhile, remains candid, refusing to say anything negative about herself. She then says to her confused friends: “What? I happen to love the way I look!”

“You should; you paid enough for it,” Miranda quips.

Speaking on her podcast, Kristin revealed that writers did not script this scene as they did not want to predict what each woman’s insecurity would, or should, be.

“It’s the one and only time that we were told we could ad-lib,” she began. “After that, it never happened again; it was very, very frowned upon after this. But it was the sweetest reason why!
