Meghan Markle reveals why she quit Deal or No Deal: ‘Forced'
Meghan Markle has admitted that she quit her job on Deal or No Deal after being treated like a ‘bimbo’ and ‘objectified on stage’.
On the latest episode of her Archetypes podcast, the former Suits actress told listeners that she hated being valued for her ‘looks’ instead of her brain.
The Duchess of Sussex had a brief stint holding suitcase number 24 on the US game show in 2006, before leaving to pursue her acting and modelling career.
In a bombshell revelation, she also admitted that there was a crew member who would tell her to “suck it in” just moments before going on stage.
Meghan made the comments on the sixth episode of her Spotify podcast, titled “Breaking down ‘The Bimbo’ with Paris Hilton & Ilza Shelsinger”.

She explained to fans that she was watching TV when an episode of Deal or No Deal came on, bringing back memories.
“My experience on the show — which included holding said briefcase on stage alongside 25 other women doing the same — it was for me, fascinating,” she began.
“I had studied acting in college at Northwestern University and like a lot of the other women standing on stage with me, acting was what I was pursuing.”
The royal explained that while her appearance on the game show ‘wasn’t acting’, she was happy to have a steady job to help pay the bills and provide health insurance.
However, she wasn’t pleased about being valued for her appearance over everything else and highlighted that she had also studied international relations in college.
“Before the tapings of the show, all the girls, we would line up and there were different stations for having your lashes put on, or your extensions put in, or the padding in your bra.
“We were even given spray-tan vouchers each week, because there was a very cookie-cutter idea of precisely what we should look like. It was solely about beauty, and not necessarily about brains,” she recalled.
“I would end up leaving [the taping] with this pit in my stomach. Knowing that I was so much more than what was being objectified on the stage. I didn’t like feeling forced to be all looks and little substance,” she added.
The former actress also shared a shocking memory from the show that she will “never, never forget”.
“There was a woman who ran the show and she would be there backstage and I can still hear her. She couldn’t properly pronounce my last name at the time, and I knew who she was talking to because she would go, ‘Markell [sic], suck it in! Markell [sic], suck it in!’
“I ended up quitting the show. Like I said, I was thankful for the job but not for how it made me feel, which was not smart,” she said.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Meghan also told her guest Paris Hilton that she wants more for her daughter Lilibet than becoming a ‘bimbo’.
“When I hear the word bimbo, I have a very negative connotation to it. I don’t see that as an aspirational thing for a woman," she began.
“I want our daughters to aspire to be slightly higher. Yeah, I want my Lili to be educated and want to be smart, and to pride herself on those things.”
