Meghan Markle breaks silence after King Charles reveal: 'Ridiculous'

It comes after Prince Harry revealed he will attend King Charles' coronation solo.

Meghan Markle has been a hot topic amongst royal fans for the past week, after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex finally revealed their coronation plans. While Prince Harry is set to attend his father’s coronation on May 6, Meghan will remain behind in California with their two young children.

On Friday, The Telegraph reported that Meghan previously wrote a letter to King Charles to share her concerns about unconscious bias within the royal family. The letter is believed to be about an allegation of racism aimed at a senior royal.

According to the publication, the former Suits actress was responding to a letter she received from King Charles, addressing her claim from Harry and Meghan’s bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021. During the interview, the Duchess alleged that there were “concerns and conversations” from the royal family about Archie’s skin colour before his birth.

During the interview, Meghan didn’t name the senior royal she was referencing, saying that it would be “very damaging” to their reputation.

Now, Meghan has hit out against speculation surrounding her decision not to attend King Charles’ coronation, saying that the private correspondence with him is in the past.

A spokesperson issued a rare statement to Page Six, saying: “The Duchess of Sussex is going about her life in the present, not thinking about correspondence from two years ago related to conversations from four years ago.

“Any suggestion otherwise is false and frankly ridiculous. We encourage tabloid media and various royal correspondents to stop the exhausting circus that they alone are creating.”

A source also told the publication that she had “moved on”.

“Yes, there was correspondence, there were letters back and forth from the Duchess of Sussex to the King,” the insider told Page Six.

“But she’s moved on, this was two years ago, it has nothing to do with her decision not to attend the coronation.”

Real reason behind Meghan’s absence

This comes after royal commentator and author Omid Scobie shared his views about the decision made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

He hinted that Archie’s fourth birthday lands on May 6, and this is possibly the driving force behind the royal couple’s choice.

“I understand that Archie’s fourth birthday (also on May 6) played a factor in the couple’s decision,” he tweeted. “Expect it to be a fairly quick trip to the UK for Prince Harry, who will only be attending the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.”

Royal fans praised the family’s decision on Twitter, with many saying that it seemed to be the smartest option.

“Again, [Harry] showing a lot of diplomatic skills and maturity here because this is the best possible outcome,” one person pointed out.

“I’m so happy our good sister is staying home with her children, and also happy that Harry is going to support his father,” another added.
