Prince Harry and Meghan are just weeks away from welcoming their first child.

And while Meghan hasn’t been afraid of doing things her way, now friends of the Duchess of Sussex have reportedly revealed she will be following in the Queen’s footsteps when it comes to where she will give birth.

Sources have told the Daily Mail that Meghan will be having a midwife-led birth at Frogmore Cottage, the couple’s new home in Windsor.

“It is her favoured choice,” the source told the publication. “But it obviously depends on how things are nearer the time.”

The Queen was born at the home of her grandparents in Mayfair and gave birth to each of her four children at either Buckingham Palace or Clarence House.

Before that, the Queen Mother gave birth to the Queen on April 21, 1926 at her grandparents, the Earl and Countess of Strathmore’s London home.

It was Princess Anne and then Princess Diana who started the tradition of having their children at the famous Lindo Wing in London.

‘As private as possible’

There has been “some talk” that Meghan, 37, might opt for a home birth, according to Vanity Fair, as she also wants to keep the birth of her first child as “private as possible”,

But they haven’t ruled out going to a hospital, especially given Meghan’s age, in which case they will opt for a maternity unit near her and Prince Harry’s home.

“Harry and Meghan realise there is intense public interest but this baby is not a direct heir to the throne and they want the birth to be as private as possible,” a source told the Sun.

“She just wants a normal, natural birth and to bond with her baby, without being primped and blow-dried to within an inch of her life just for the pictures,” the source said.

Meghan was also said to be reading up on hypno-birthing techniques as her mum Doria Ragland, is said to be “encouraging Meg to go for a natural birth”.

Hypnotherapy is said to make for a much more relaxed and calm birthing process as mothers are encouraged to enter a form of deep meditation to manage the pain and unpredictability of childbirth.

New home is ready

Meghan and Harry moved into their new home last week.

Frogmore Cottage in Windsor has been undergoing renovations since last year to turn it from staff accommodation to a 10 bedroom family home for Harry and Meghan and their baby.

It was announced last year that Harry and Meghan’s new official residence would be at Frogmore Cottage and that “Windsor is a very special place for Their Royal Highnesses.”
