Mayim Bialik Gets Candid About 'The Big Bang Theory' Spinoff
Mayim Bialik is making a TV comeback — but does it involve reprising one of her most well-known roles?
Mayim made her official return to television on January 14, when she guest-starred alongside Melissa Rauch on an episode of Night Court. This was the first time the two shared the screen together since starring on The Big Bang Theory, which ended after 12 seasons in 2019. This reunion sparked interest among longtime fans, with them wondering if Mayim would return to portray her well-loved character Amy Farrah Fowler on the upcoming TBBT spinoff.
When speaking with Us Weekly about this exact subject, Mayim got candid about if she'd ever play Amy again. She explained while she hasn't been asked to return to the TBBT universe, she's intrigued by how the potential new series could go.
"I haven't been contacted," she told the outlet in an article published on January 15. "I've seen what's been announced and I think that's where a lot of people's knowledge of it is right [now] — me being one of them."
Even though Mayim hasn't been asked about playing Amy again, let's not forget she's already done so in the last year. She and former co-star Jim Parsons (who played Sheldon Cooper) made guest appearances in the series finale of Young Sheldon in May 2024, revealing what happened to the couple after TBBT ended. Fans learned adult Sheldon had been writing a memoir (occurring after the events of the original series) and that the couple welcomed a son and daughter into their family.
Given how Mayim's already stepped into Amy's shoes once before, it probably wouldn't surprise folks to learn Mayim would be open to portraying the fictional neuroscientist again.
"I love being known as that character and I love what it means to people," she added. "So for me, it would be a thrill to be part of it in any way. It was a really, really fun experience to be part of that on Young Sheldon. I also get to interact with [creators] Steven [Molaro] and Steve [Holland] and a lot of our writers and producers, so it's a whole world that I still feel very connected to."
While The Big Bang Theory spinoff is still in development, Variety revealed in October 2024 three former cast members will appear on the show. Kevin Sussman (who portrayed comic book store owner Stuart Bloom), Brian Posehn (who portrayed Caltech geologist Bert Kibbler) and Lauren Lapkus (who played Stuart's love interest Denise) are all signed on for the project, making us think the show may be centered around this trio of characters.
No matter the case, we'll keep our fingers crossed for another Amy Farrah Fowler appearance!
