Matty J and Laura Byrne's 'light at the end of the tunnel' after renovating 'rundown' $2 million house
The Bachelor couple have had their fair share of issues while renovating their dream South Coast home.
The Bachelor stars and Aussie power couple Matty J and Laura Byrne announced in August to their followers that they had bought a 'dilapidated' old house down on the South Coast and after months of renovations and a couple of setbacks, they've shared that their restoration of the $2 million home is finally taking shape.
The house is nicknamed Chante-Mer which is French for 'sing the sea' and according to the Daily Telegraph the couple paid a neat $2.19 million for the new digs, with it last having been sold in 1984 for $62,500.
Laura and Matty J's reno woes: 'Had to shut down construction'
Taking to Instagram, Laura and Matty shared the most recent reno updates and struggles, after dealing with wood rot, mould, termites and even snakes.
"Five months ago we picked up the keys on this beautiful old girl, and on the same day, demolition started. There was no way of really knowing what this Reno had in store for us, or how comprehensive the rebuild was going to have to be until we started pulling off walls and pulling up the carpet," they said. "We are slowly seeing the light at the end of the tunnel."

They told followers that construction had to be paused for over a week after they brought pest experts in. "We had to replace all of the walls and internal structures throughout the kitchen," they explained.
Fans have been delighted to take part in the couple's journey as they show off their renos, even joking that the construction company they were using has doubled as a 'marriage counsellor'. "Huge thanks to @bespokelivingconstructions who has been equal parts builder, project manager, marriage counsellor and design sounding board," they said.
"This house will be renovation inspo for sooooo many people. It’s gorgeous. I am learning and loving it all!" one fan commented, while someone else said, "Amazing work!!! It’s going to look incredible. Love seeing the progress. Can’t wait to see it finished."

The new home boasts three bedrooms and two bathrooms split across two levels and is set atop a clifftop with stunning ocean views. The house is set on 746 square metres, looking down onto Racecourse beach.
"The south coast is a magical place to us, it’s where we got married, and now it’s where we will make memories as a family. We don’t know what we are doing, or what this house will become, but if you want to follow along the chaos @chante.mer.house while we restore this old beauty, honour its joyous little quirks and resist the millennial urge to paint everything white," they captioned their first Instagram post.
