MasterChef viewers call out 'ridiculous' detail in finale: 'Why?'
Andy Allen and Poh Ling Yeow's outfits sparked plenty of conversation online.
MasterChef Australia crowned a winner during Tuesday night’s nail-biting finale, with Victorian-based barista Nat Thaipun awarded $250,000 and a residency at Crown Melbourne’s ALUMNI restaurant. While viewers described Nat’s win as “wonderful” and “well deserved”, it appears some people were distracted by the judges’ outfits in the episode.
Andy Allen, who has continued to take fashion risks throughout his fifth season as a judge, looked very dapper in a double-breasted grey suit. However, his string bow tie sparked plenty of conversation on social media.
“Andy's tie looking familiar... Knew I've seen it before,” one person wrote alongside a photo of KFC’s founder Colonel Sanders.

“Why is Andy dressed as Colonel Sanders with that ridiculous tie?” another remarked, while a third added, “Andy dressed paying tribute to his favourite chef - Colonel Sanders?”.
“Andy wearing a Colonel Sanders bow tie. Just waiting for someone to ask him for the secret herbs and spices recipe,” someone else joked.
“I swear Andy’s ties remind me of anime schoolgirl ones,” a different user replied, followed by another who said, “Another Wyatt Earp outfit being worn by Andy for the final”.
Andy wore a similar, much larger string bow tie during Monday night's semi-final, which he paired with a COS tailored black suit, a white shirt and a cummerbund from CALIBRE.
Poh wows with 'quirky' outfit
Andy wasn’t the only person whose outfit caused a stir online, with viewers questioning why three out of the four judges were dressed in all black while Poh Ling Yeow stood out in a canary yellow dress.
“‘Let's all wear black and not tell Poh’,” one person posted on Reddit. “I hate when my friends do this! But she looks amazing.”
Poh’s $899 Lucinda Maxi Dress from Sydney-based label Leo Lin features a gathered sculptural short sleeve, centre black split, and painted roses dripping down to the hem. Meanwhile, Sofia Levin looked stunning in a $1,049 Black Velvet Button Gown with a gold hammered button and short train from Carla Zampatti.
Fans also took to X to say that Poh had “gone full empress” with her outfit and she looked like a “Gorgeous Poh-kemon”.
“Love Poh’s bright dress tonight,” someone remarked, while another added, “Poh’s dress is on point”.
“Poh is channelling Imelda Marcos tonight,” a different user shared.
