MasterChef Australia fans were thrilled last month when Channel 10 shared an exciting announcement about next year’s season. The upcoming seventeenth series will be titled MasterChef: Back To Win and will feature a cast entirely made up of fan-favourite contestants who have previously missed out on the trophy.

The cooking competition first aired a Back To Win series in 2020, which was the first season to star Andy Allen, Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo as judges and saw Emelia Jackson take out the title. The show also featured returning contestants in MasterChef: Fans & Favourites where Billie McKay became the show’s first two-time winner.

Meanwhile, MasterChef All-Stars in 2012 had a cast of 12 returning competitors - including current judge Poh Ling Yeow. However, this only aired for three weeks during the Summer Olympics and there was no prize money for winner Callum Hann as it was a charity season.

Following Channel 10’s announcement, fans have taken to social media to share which former contestants they would love to see compete again.

“Personally I would love to see Snez [Calic], Loki [Madireddi] (the guy who had the immunity pin in season 10), a few fans from Fan vs Favs, Depinder [Chhibber], Kishwar [Chowdhury], Tommy Pham and Tamara Graffen,” one person wrote. “I don’t think many people before season 10 should be included.”

“Deffo would like to see Snez. Depinder, Pete [Campbell], Tommy and Conor [Curran] from S13 I'd like to see. Simon [Toohey] and Tim [Bone] from S11,” another added.

“Declan [Cleary], Mimi [Wong] and Robbie [Cooper],” a third commented, followed by someone else who shared, “I'd love to see Daniel [Lamble] and Keyma [Vasquez Montero] again. I think they could take it far”.

Others said they wouldn’t be opposed to the show’s only two-time winner Billie McKay competing for a third time. “Billie, just to see her win and ghost again,” a fan joked, with someone else writing, “I would be good with Billie coming back every other year to win”.

“I’d like to see returnees we haven't seen from Back to Win (S12) or anyone that returned for FvF (S14),” a different user declared, while another remarked, “I’m hoping those who competed in Season 12: Back To Win of 2020 and returnees from Season 14: Fans and Favorites in 2022 would like to come back as well”.

Some people also admitted they would love to see contestants from other shows in the MasterChef franchise make a surprise appearance.

“How long ago was the Junior edition? Any of them that are now old enough to be on the main show would be a nice surprise,” one fan suggested, followed by another who shared, “I know its probs impossible to have the Dessert Masters ppl join this but it would be fun if they suddenly joined this”.

“I'd also find it interesting if they included people who lost from other versions of MasterChef across the globe. Probs would make it a better reason to have this. And seeing that some US contestants are a fan of this show, it would be nice to see,” someone else said.

“Judges Andy Allen, Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin and Jean-Christophe Novelli will all be returning to the MasterChef Australia kitchen in 2025 to serve up another delicious season of Australia’s favourite cooking show,” they said.

The new season is expected to premiere in July 2025.
