Fans disgusted by MasterChef chicken feet dessert

MasterChef fans were left squirming last night, after a number of contestants plated up a traditional ingredient in a series of bizarre, and unsavoury looking dishes.

As part of new judge Melissa Leong’s Mystery Box challenge, contestants were tasked with including chicken feet in their offerings last night, and it’s safe to say some incorporated the classic Asian ingredient better than others.

The box included a range of unusual ingredients, including cherries, tarot root, King Whiting, spices and of course the poultry feet.

Most opted for a broth, or braised option, using the ingredient to make their tasty sauces and accompanying sides to the main plate.

Others, however, went down a different road to the shock of fans, who couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow or two online.

Amelia opted for a sweet cherry mille-feuille using the chicken feet, while Ben used the ingredient to make a caramel sauce.

Fans not sold on chicken feet dessert

“A guy made chicken feet ice cream tonight on MasterChef Australia,” one person wrote. “There is strange stuff in the world.”

Another was not too impressed with Ben’s option, even saying she was switching off over the bizarre choice.

“A contestant on MasterChef is making caramel out of chicken feet and I’m out,” she wrote.

Another felt the need to drown their sorrows over the chicken dessert.

“Someone on Australian MasterChef is making chicken feet ice cream...” they wrote. “I'm getting drunk so I forget I ever heard that combination of words.”

Others were just relieved when they saw the ingredient in its natural habitat.

“Omg Poh making braised chicken feet FINALLY SOMEONE IS USING IT PROPERLY,” one woman wrote.

Though the flavour combination left some feeling queasy, making caramel and dessert from chicken feet was a hit amongst the judges.

Jock Zonfrillo called the dish ‘incredible’, while Melissa Leong said it was ‘off the charts’.

Looks like loyal fans jumped the gun and maybe we should all be queuing up for chicken feet caramel after all.

It’s not the first contentious moment in the season so far. Earlier this week. fans protested at contestant Laura’s apparent advantage in one challenge.
