The English-language sports car biopic is being directed by Oscar winner Bobby Moresco (Crash). Andrea Iervolino produces. Filming got underway this month in Italy. Above and below are first look images from the set.
Maserati was founded in 1914 in a garage in the central Italian city of Bologna by three brothers: Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto. From its early days, the company – which is now known for luxury cars — was connected to the world of car racing. Maserati’s first Grand Prix vehicle is the one that Alfieri Maserati was driving in the 1927 Messina Cup race when he had a near fatal crash. Alfieri died a few years later at the age of 44 from injuries related to that carsh. In 1937, the brothers sold a controlling stake in the company that is now owned by Fiat.
Iervolino’s previous company, ILBE Group – in which he was partnered with Monika Bacardi — produced the Bobby Moresco-directed biopic Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend and was also among the producers of Micheal Mann’s Ferrari starring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz.
Iervolino said today about the cast: “Jessica Alba, Michele Morrone, and Salvatore Esposito are delivering exceptional performances. Their dedication and talent are bringing extraordinary characters to life, and I couldn’t be prouder of what they have created so far. Jessica brings incredible depth and sensitivity to her role, while Michele and Salvatore showcase an intensity and screen presence that are simply magnetic.”
He continued: “Anthony Hopkins is an extraordinary actor, capable of turning every scene into a masterpiece. I cannot wait to see his performance take shape. Bezikian recently acted in Iervolino-produced Bunny Man, which is is in post and stars James Franco and Mike Tyson, as well as Paradox Effect and Kill’em All 2. Victoria Sophia recently wrapped on sci-fi film Eyes In The Trees.
