For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Scary Movie is a slasher parody that debuted in 2000 thanks to the Wayans brothers — Keenen Ivory Wayans directed it, and Marlon and Shawn Wayans wrote and starred in it.

It was a box office hit, making $278 million off a $19-million budget, and spawned one of the most iconic lines in movie history: Wazzup!

Scary Movie spoofed popular horror movies like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Blair Witch Project, Halloween, The Shining, and more. Part of its success was due to the hilarious way it made fun of certain common tropes like the group splitting up and the "hot girl" falling on air.

The trio went on to release Scary Movie 2 in 2001, with Keenen returning as director and Shawn and Marlon as writers and costars. They also brought back Anna Faris and Regina Hall to reprise their roles as friends Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks.

Despite the success of the first two films, the following year, Harvey Weinstein's Dimension Films announced they would not be bringing the Wayans brothers back to complete the franchise. Harvey would go on to create three more films in the series.

“We read on Christmas Eve that they were going with someone else for [‘Scary Movie 3’],” Marlon told Variety. “We probably could have sued or whatever, but part of us was like, ‘All you can do is allow us to create something new.’ I could write a book on that whole thing, honestly. They definitely still owe us money, lots of money. What they did was really bad business.”

Anna and Regina starred in every film except the fifth installment. Anna revealed she'd only return to the franchise under two conditions: more money and if Regina returns as well.

Well, Scary Movie 6 is officially happening, so the reunion might happen sooner than we think. Earlier today, Marlon announced the good news on his social media accounts.
