She’s one of the most influential fashion bloggers in the world, whose site is read by more than 1.5 million women around the world every month, who has worked with everyone from NARS to J Crew and Superga, and is the brains behind such tongue-in-chic terms like ‘arm party’ and ‘birth control glasses’. She is Leandra Medine, the Man Repeller.
In the country as the guest of Brisbane’s James Street shopping precinct and its inaugural RESORT event, Medine sat down with us to answer a few questions about her favourite ever fashion collection, Mariah Carey and, of course, the infamous party ghost emoji.
MC: What is your favourite movie wardrobe?
LM: Well I just watched High Society with Grace Kelly on the flight over and I just loved her wardrobe in that movie. It’s so glam but it’s also not. She’s wearing high waist pants with the little loafers. It’s cute.
MC: What is your favourite collection of all time?
LM: Balenciaga Spring/Summer 2008. Nicolas Ghesquiere was still there and it was all those gladiator boots. I don’t think anyone had ever done sandal gladiators previous to that. Except for the Romans, you know? And those mini floral dresses. It was so cool and robotic and also feminine. He’s a genius.
MC: What’s your go-to Karaoke song?
LM: 'All I Want For Christmas Is You’ by Mariah Carey. No matter the season.
MC: What’s your guilty pleasure?
LM: Should I tell you my real guilty pleasure? Looking at my husband’s ex girlfriends on Instagram.
MC: If you were an emoji, which one would you be?
LM: You know the one with one eye open and one eye closed, with the tongue out? I like that one. Or the party ghost.
