It's a good time to be Meghan Trainor. Her smash hit 'All About That Bass' is number one in Australia, back home in the U.S and she's just released her first E.P 'Title', full of girl power messages and an old-school soul sound. Now she's on a whirlwind promotional trip to Australia to flaunt her, ahem, bass and the 20-year-old is pretty much on top of the world. Literally. "Being on the [Harbour] Bridge, that was a real pinch-me moment," Trainor tells us. "I turned to [my manager] and I was like, what are we doing here? All this for a three-minute song! It's crazy." Today, we stole a few moments with the girl no-one can get out of their heads.
In 'All About That Bass' you talk about your mum's words of wisdom. What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
What a big question! Wow. 'Stay true to yourself'. I get that a lot, and I like that. It's an easy one for me, I can definitely do that.
What's the biggest message on the E.P?
Girl power and love yourself more. I needed songs like that growing up. I wish I liked myself more when I was a teenager.
Who are your strong female icons?
Beyonce! [Sings] Who run the world? Girls. C'mon? She is my girl, she's amazing. Christina Aguilera, when she did that song 'Beautiful', that was great.
Pop culture booty. Nicki Minaj or Jennifer Lopez?
I'm gonna say JLo 'cos she was there first, and her booty is real and it's always been there. Nicki's is flawless but... that's hard!
What is your go-to karaoke song?
I just started doing this [karaoke]. 'Single Ladies', by Beyonce.
If the E.P was an emoji, which one would it be?
It would be the girl dancing, like the salsa dancer. Right? All my girls.
