Manu reveals why he really lashed out at MKR's Josh and Austin

From critiquing food to making assumptions about personalities, My Kitchen Rules’ Josh and Austin Bonwick have not shied away from sharing their bold opinions throughout this season.

But their outspoken nature finally hit a nerve with judge Manu Feildel tonight when the controversial brothers couldn’t put their money where their mouths are.

Josh and Austin not only served raw chicken for their main meal, but they delivered it to dinner guests over four hours late. That was the final straw for Manu who told the boys, “This is ridiculous” and “I’m so disappointed”.

“After 10 years, there’s a certain expectation that you wish for, and when I see a team that walks in and is pretty casual about the competition, it’s just going to rub me the wrong way,” Manu tells Yahoo Lifestyle about the incident.

“I’m like, ‘Hang on, what the heck are you doing?’ Because if they’re there and they don’t care about it, or don’t seem to care about it, then they took someone else’s spot basically.

“That’s the way I see it. I want to get fat eating good food.”

Josh and Austin served heart stopper chicken lollipops with garlic mash for their main meal, but neither Manu or fellow judge Pete Evans were raving about their “watery” mash and “raw” chicken that arrived four hours and 20 minutes after their entree.

“I’m so, so disappointed right now,” Manu told the contestants after tasting the dish.

“You’ve been sitting around this table treating people… like telling their food is terrible. You’re not even capable of coming back with the goods.”

The usually confident Josh remained silent, but his younger brother spoke out.

“We never said we were amazing chefs,” said Austin.

“Firstly you shouldn’t use the word chef,” Manu interrupted.

After correcting himself by using the word “cooks” instead, Austin told Manu, “So it’s a little annoying that you question our integrity about critiquing food when all you guys have ever asked is honesty”.

“Well let me be honest with you,” Manu retorted. “This is ridiculous, and I’ve never expressed myself like this in 10 years.”

Manu says Josh and Austin are like no other team that’s ever appeared on the show.

“It doesn’t matter that Pete and I are the judges, they treat us like everyone else,” the celebrity chef tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

“I’ve never met people like this before and I’m not excited to meet people like this again.”

Meanwhile Josh and Austin don’t seem too apologetic or fazed by Manu’s firm remarks during their instant restaurant.

“The judges would always hold you to your words. So I did the same thing too,” Josh tells us.

“If I saw Manu say one thing and another night he’ll say something else, I’d ask him questions or Austin would ask him questions and we’d really get to the thick of it.

“Everyone else was like, ‘Oh Manu’s speaking, ok.’ They’re starstruck and we’re just like, ‘You’re a human being, we have questions, answer them’,” he adds.

“For us that’s why we really believe in God,” explains Austin.

“And a lot of people at the table saw Pete and Manu as gods but they’re just like us. They’re just people.”

With a score of just 31 tonight, Josh and Austin are at the bottom of the leaderboard and will have to next compete in a cook-off against Karito and Ian.

My Kitchen Rules continues at 7pm on Channel Seven.
