MAFS star spills on medical emergency that never aired on TV: 'Struggling'

EXCLUSIVE: Collins Christian says Natalie Parham was ‘not in a good state’ during their honeymoon.

After their tense discussions, separate sleeping arrangements and cancelled activities, it’s fair to say that Collins Christian and Natalie Parham had one of the worst honeymoons on this year’s season of Married At First Sight.

While fans only saw a snippet of the couple’s disastrous trip to Broome following their TV wedding, it turns out things were much worse in real life.

Collins, who was ‘removed’ from the reality show earlier this week, tells Yahoo Lifestyle’s Behind the Edit podcast that Natalie experienced a medical emergency during their getaway which was never aired.

“We went to the beach, but very early on, we’re an hour and a half into [the date] and then you saw Nat saying, ‘I want to go inside’,” he details. “So now this is everything that they didn’t show and I thought this would play a huge part in the experiment.

“We went back to our base, our awesome suite… I remember Nat is looking really bleak and pale, and she looks at me and she just says, ‘I’m going to faint’. So I grab her, holding her by her side, and I say, ‘Let’s go into our room right now’. The camera crew was still a little behind, but my main focus was trying to get Nat into our room, she was really struggling.”

Collins explains that Natalie was feeling very hot so he tried his best to cool down the house by closing the windows and blinds, blasting the air-conditioner and putting cold towels on Natalie’s forehead and neck.

“I even had ice cubes and I was wiping the bottom of her feet just trying to cool her down,” he shares. “Then the camera crew came and they didn’t get any of that on camera so I did a voxie [piece-to-camera interview] saying, ‘Look, I don’t know what’s going on but she’s struggling’. So they recorded me looking after Nat, but she was really not in a good state.

“The manager of the whole suite was also a professionally trained nurse, so she came and asked what was going on and Nat said it was heatstroke. But the medic said, ‘Look, you can’t really get heatstroke unless you’re out in the sun for 3-4 hours’ and we were only out in the sun for an hour and a half. So the medic told the producers and us, ‘Yeah she’s been struggling with the sun, but this is a lot of mental stress as well’.

“As that happened, the producers looked at me and said, ‘Alright, the next two days of the honeymoon are canned’.”

Major unseen moment from Collins and Natalie's wedding

Another surprising moment that viewers never got to see from the couple’s MAFS experience was when Natalie broke down at their wedding.

Collins reveals that during one of the filming breaks on the day, he found Natalie “bawling her eyes out” and “crying beyond compare” because she missed her dad - who had passed away five weeks earlier.

“The producers came up to me and said, ‘Look, unfortunately Nat’s really uncontrollably breaking down, we’re actually going to bring her family back to the wedding from their reception just so she can spend some time with them’,” he details.

“So I was supportive, but in my head I'm thinking, okay, sure that's fine, but the wedding and the honeymoon is meant to be the easy part.”

According to Collins, Natalie’s homesickness played a “massive part” in their relationship so he was shocked that it was never mentioned on the show.

“The whole way through I can only string two or three days together where Nat has been present, ready to do MAFS,” he remarks. What happened is unfortunately, she got really, really homesick and there would be multiple times where off-camera her and I would be sitting down and she would just start to cry saying, ‘I miss my dad, I miss my family, I want to go home’.

“Every time she was really struggling with homesickness, I would mention to the producers that she was struggling. And I will say, as much as the producers do take a beating, they picked it up really early that she was struggling and they did everything possible for her to stay.”
