MAFS' Selina reveals she was almost homeless after the show: 'Tough'

The reality TV star has opened up about her struggles since moving to Sydney last year.

Married At First Sight’s Selina Chhaur has shared a candid post on social media detailing her struggles with mental health since appearing on the reality show last year.

Taking to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday evening, the popular TV star and influencer opened up to her followers about how her mental health has “really declined” since she moved from Adelaide to Sydney in October.

“It may seem like I'm living it up over here, but it has been far from that reality,” she detailed. “It's been really tough. I have cried myself to sleep so many nights.”

Selina revealed that she hadn’t been in contact with her family since she finished filming MAFS in January last year, and her mum only reached out for the first time last week.

“For those that have been following my journey, that’s a long time to go [with] no contact from your family, especially with everything that I went through,” she said. “To go through that without my family's support was really hard.”

The former hairdresser added that she’s found it extremely difficult to navigate the ‘influencer world’, as well as the Sydney property market.

“Only a few weeks ago, I literally was fearing that I was going to be homeless in Sydney,” she said. “I'm so lucky and grateful that I got approved for this apartment.

“I still live this narrative at the moment where brands still don't want to work with me because I don't fit this cookie cutter ‘blonde haired blue-eyed’ influencer look.

“That's my reality of the moment, it’s not fun and rainbows all the time. It sucks, life does suck sometimes, and that’s okay.”

Selina's major announcement

While Selina shared that she’s currently the happiest she’s been in a long time - “I’m finally sleeping, eating well, and done the work to heal” - she announced that she’s launching a new business to help others in similar situations.

She explained that she misses the genuine relationships she formed with her clients when she worked as a hairdresser and wants to create similar connections with her followers via her service Call a Bestie.

“I know firsthand what it’s like to feel rejected because you’re ‘different’, I know that feeling when you feel so broken how hard it is to get out of bed in the morning, I also know what it feels like not being accepted by your own family,” she wrote on her Instagram Story.

“Life isn’t Instagram perfect and it’s not meant to be. It has its highs and lows, and as Dory from Finding Nemo would say - just keep swimming! Just know you’re not alone, it’s ok to be vulnerable, it’s ok to be sad. I am here for you.”
