MAFS' Richard reveals why he always wore scarves during filming

He may be the oldest participant on this year’s season of Married At First Sight, but Richard Sauerman is definitely one of the most stylish cast members on the show.

The 62-year-old motivational speaker, who is paired with Andrea Thompson, has become quite well known for wearing a vibrant coloured scarf in almost every scene he appears in.

His impressive collection of scarves certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed on social media, especially after he walked out of his bedroom wearing one with his pyjamas during Tuesday night’s episode.

“Does Richard actually sleep in a scarf?” one fan asked, while another added, “Do you reckon Richard wears a scarf in the shower?”

“Why is Richard wearing a scarf making breakfast?” a third queried, followed by someone else who commented, “How many different colours of that scarf does Richard own?!”.

“Does Richard have a second head growing on his neck? Why is he ALWAYS in a scarf?” a different user remarked.

Richard has finally answered these burning questions and told Daily Mail Australia there are “four reasons” why he’s always wearing the accessory.

“Firstly it's a comfort thing, and I also cough a lot and use my scarf to cough into,” he said. “You never know when the weather will change and you need some extra warmth, especially in autumn and spring.

“It's also a splash of colour in my otherwise neutral-coloured wardrobe.”

Are Richard and Andrea still together?

Despite starting out as one of the strongest couples in the experiment, tensions reached an all-time high during Wednesday night’s episode when Richard and Andrea had their “biggest fight yet”.

The pair were recently spotted enjoying coffee together which is a good sign things have remained friendly between them, however, an insider has told Yahoo Lifestyle that they are no longer in a romantic relationship.

“They're no longer a couple,” they said, adding that the pair “haven't really kept in touch” after filming wrapped.

It also appears Andrea is not following Richard on his non-MAFS Instagram account that he uses for his motivational speaking work, another hint that things may not have worked out between the pair. However, he is still following Andrea.
