MAFS producers speak out after drug scandal shuts down filming

“Two weddings were shot in Byron Bay, and during the filming of one wedding, an ambulance had to be called,” an insider told the publication.

They added that it was “in response to an incident relating to drug use of one of the guests at the wedding”.

A spokesperson from the show’s production company Endemol Shine Australia later confirmed the rumour to Yahoo Lifestyle.

“An ambulance was called when a guest required medical assistance at a recent Married At First Sight wedding,” they said.

“Production was paused for one hour while the guest received assistance.”

In a statement to So Dramatic!, ESA added that the guest has “since made a full recovery”.

2023 cast leaks

The incident comes shortly after Yahoo Lifestyle revealed that the new season of MAFS has reportedly been “thrown into chaos” following a number of cast leaks.

A source told us that the show’s producers were extremely angry about the leaks, especially because it happened before the cast got to meet for the first time on camera.

“The new season of Married At First Sight has been thrown into chaos just days into filming,” the insider said. “A series of early leaks revealing the brides online before the majority of the weddings have been shot has ruined the surprise element of the show.

“The grooms have all been looking up the pictures and trying to guess which bride is theirs. Producers are furious.”

So far, the 2023 cast of MAFS includes Brisbane-based flight attendant-turned-beautician Melinda Willis, Sydney-based influencer and podcaster Tahnee Cook, mother-of-one and successful baker Alyssa Barmonde, childcare worker Claire Nomarhas, Perth influencer Bronte Schofield, and Perth voiceover artist Oliver Skelton.

Hairdresser Mel Shepps and Joshua White were also recently spotted filming their wedding at Swifts, a $60 million heritage-listed gothic mansion in Sydney’s Darling Point.
