MAFS' Mel Schilling fires up over Elle Macpherson's cancer cure claims: 'Arrogance'
The MAFS judge and cancer survivor "has some thoughts" on the supermodel's claim she used holistic methods to treat her breast cancer.
Married At First Sight expert Mel Schilling has called out Elle Macpherson's recent messaging surrounding her cancer diagnosis, after the supermodel revealed that she had breast cancer seven years ago and treated it using 'holistic' methods as opposed to traditional medicine. Elle has faced backlash since revealing this in her new memoir Elle, and Mel Schilling has now uploaded her own stance on the issue after the MAFS expert was diagnosed with colon cancer late last year.
Mel, who has now finished six months of chemotherapy, recently updated Yahoo Lifestyle on her health saying that she was excited to be back filming the upcoming season of MAFS in Australia as she regains her energy.
“I'm feeling good. I finished my chemo about a month ago. So my energy starting to return I actually feel like I'm in my body again, which is nice," she said.
Elle Macpherson's claims of healing her cancer through 'holistic' methods
Elle has revealed her doctor confirmed the diagnosis of breast cancer after a lumpectomy, and suggested she have a mastectomy with radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and a breast reconstruction. Speaking with The Weekly, Elle said, "It was a shock, it was unexpected, it was confusing, it was daunting in so many ways."

Elle then said she spent a few weeks considering her options, before ultimately choosing to embrace a holistic approach. After getting advice from 32 doctors and experts, she chose to pray and meditate on a beach and made the decision not to undergo chemotherapy.
The model decided on "an intuitive, heart-led, holistic approach" to treating her cancer alongside her primary doctor, who specialises in integrative medicine – a combination of therapies and lifestyle changes to treat a patient.
Mel Schilling's take on Elle's cancer journey
Mel has now taken to Instagram to share some thoughts with her followers, calling out Elle's messaging around her cancer treatment as 'privileged'.
“I’m having some thoughts about Elle and the interviews she is doing lately, as a relatively new member of the cancer community and as someone who has just completed six months of chemo,” Mel began. “My greatest concern is people will listen to her and then choose not to take the medical route and could be in danger.”

Mel said Elle's position as a high-profile role model is a problem when peddling misinformation surrounding cancer treatments.
“I have a problem with Elle Macpherson as a high-profile role model, a woman we aspire to, who is selling products,” Mel said. “So, for me, this message she is peddling is plagued with judgement, arrogance, superiority and privilege. It concerns me.”
