MAFS groom Steve almost wed MasterChef winner

In a case of reality TV worlds - and hearts - colliding, it’s been revealed that Married At First Sight groom Steve Burley, 52, was previously engaged to MasterChef Australia winner Diana Chan.

The barbershop owner - who also appeared on Channel Seven’s dating show First Dates in 2018 - lifted the lid on his five-year romance with the 32-year-old foodie on Monday.

“We were really close,” Steve told TV WEEK.

“I met Diana in Melbourne CBD one evening, and we just hit it off. Our relationship took off from there”.

The couple were living together and had even planned to tie the knot when Steve received a shock testicular cancer diagnosis at the age of 44.

He credited ‘deadset sweetheart’ Diana - who took out the MasterChef crown in 2017 - with supporting him through his harrowing treatment.

“I was just overcome with shock about being diagnosed with testicular cancer. She was there. She supported me at every oncology appointment that I had, the operation, all this sort of stuff. She's just an absolute deadset sweetheart,” he told the publication.

The UK-born businessman opened up about his health battle to Talking Married host Shelly Horton, explaining how it ultimately ended his relationship with Diana.

“For the relationship that I was in, it was a five-year relationship, we were engaged to get married. Obviously, that fell apart for other reasons, but she was super supportive towards me, and I will be forever grateful because of that,” he said.

Steve isn’t the first MAFS 2020 participant to detail their health battles, with bride Tash Herz revealing her cervical cancer scare earlier this week.

Steve’s cheating regret

Elsewhere in his chat on Talking Married, Steve revealed that he had regrets about the bombshell cheating admission he made at his wedding to Mishel Meshes.

“I wish I had spoken to Mishel about it, instead of speaking to her daughter,” he said.

Nevertheless, Steve confirmed that he still stands by his decision to come clean about his past, despite the way it upset his new wife.
