‘Lockerbie: A Search for Truth’ Trailer: Colin Firth Plays a Father Fighting for Justice After His Daughter Dies in Terrorist Attack
Colin Firth is a father desperately seeking justice in the first trailer for “Lockerbie: A Search for Truth,” an upcoming limited series about the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 that killed 259 passengers and crew members.
In the Sky and Peacock show, Oscar winner Firth plays Dr. Jim Swire, whose daughter dies in the terrorist attack. In the aftermath, he becomes the spokesperson for the families of U.K. victims and embarks on a “relentless journey that not only jeopardizes his stability, family and life, but completely overturns his trust in the justice system,” according to the show’s synopsis. “As the truth shifts under Jim’s feet, his view of the world is left forever changed.”

In addition to Firth, “Lockerbie: A Search for Truth” also stars Catherine McCormack (“Slow Horses,” “Temple”) as Jim Swire’s wife, Jane. The five-part series is a co-production between Carnival Films, part of Universal International Studios, and Sky Studios. Scottish playwright David Harrower (“Blackbird,” “Knives in Hens”) serves as lead writer, while BAFTA winner Otto Bathurst (“Peaky Blinders,” “The Winter King”) is lead director. Executive producers include Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant for Carnival Films, Sam Hoyle for Sky Studios, as well as Harrower, Bathurst, Liz Trubridge, Jim Sheridan, Kirsten Sheridan and Oskar Slingerland.
“The bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 was one of the most devastating acts of terrorism that took the lives of 270 innocent people, including both U.S. and U.K. citizens,” Neame and Marchat said in a statement. “As the spokesperson for the U.K. victims’ families, we have followed Jim Swire’s remarkable story for over three decades. It is consequential to now watch Colin Firth’s captivating performance as he depicts Jim’s life’s work on screen. In part a profoundly moving character story of love and loss, this drama is as much an investigative political thriller that shows how an ordinary man with unstoppable determination can take on governments and world leaders in pursuit of truth.”
“Lockerbie: A Search for Truth” will premiere on Jan. 2 on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW in the U.K. and Ireland, and on Peacock in the U.S.
