Lisa Curry marks one-year anniversary of daughter’s death: ‘Broken’
Lisa Curry has taken to social media to share a heartbreaking tribute for her daughter, Jaimi, on the first anniversary of her death.
Jaimi, the eldest child of Lisa and ex-husband Grant Kenny, passed away September 14 last year from a long-term illness at the age of 33.
The former Olympian posted a four and a half minute photo montage on Instagram with memories of her daughter set to Alexandra Burke’s cover of Hallelujah.
In the lengthy caption, she opened up about her grief and admitted that it often feels like she’s “drowning in the pain”.
“I would never have thought my life would be like it is now,” she began.

“Grant and I feel broken. I’ve lost myself. But each day I try to continue on, one step at a time to get things done, to continue being a mother, a grannie, a wife, a friend, a business owner.
“At times distracting myself so much that I can’t think of anything… But then the quiet times come and everything comes flooding back, every feeling, every memory and I feel like I’m drowning in the pain and I just can’t do anything.”
“But each day there are times when it’s ok for a little while and I guess those little times will eventually get a little longer.”
She continued: “Today, at 7.10am, as she took her last breath a year ago, we honoured Jaimi by being at her favourite beach to lay flowers into the ocean. I hope that wherever she is - above, or at arm's length in spirit energy she can still see and feel the love.
“Remembering you always our beautiful girl. Still feels like yesterday.”
Jaimi’s best friend Millie Thomas also posted a number of photos from the beach on Facebook, writing that she misses her “more than you can begin to imagine”.
“We filled the ocean with pretty flowers for you and I could feel you looking down on all of us and smiling your gorgeous smile,” she said.
The tributes come shortly after Jaimi’s brother, SAS Australia star Jett Kenny, recounted the final moments of her life and how she fought “all the way until the end”.
“Eight hours I think she was off life support for until she finally passed away; the doctors thought it was going to be about a minute or two, so she was a fighter, that’s for sure,” he told Courier Mail.
The 27-year-old also revealed that the hardest part was watching his parents deal with the painful grief of losing a child.
“You see your parents, and that’s sort of the only thing that really gets me upset is seeing mum and dad so upset, because no one wants to see their parents upset in a way,” he said.
“I remember the first time I proper cried about it was when mum was so upset. I was just like, ‘goddammit’. But after that it was just a matter of trying to be strong for them, I guess.”
