The royals stepped out for Remembrance Sunday over the weekend, and Kate Middleton was joined on the balcony above the Cenotaph war memorial by Sophie Wessex—aka the wife of Prince Edward, King Charles’s younger brother.
And naturally, lip readers are busy doing their thing—“their thing” being obsessively analyzing everything that was said between Kate and Sophie during their chat on the balcony. The topic? Prince William’s bold new beard.
According to professional lip reader Nicola Hickling, who spoke to The Sun, Sophie asked the Princess of Wales, “You like a beard?” Kate allegedly went ahead and responded with “I find it quite rousing,” and Sophie said, “You’re all better now” as they both laughed.
However, lip reader Kayleigh Harris also analyzed the moment for The Sun and claimed Kate responded to Sophie’s question by saying Prince William’s beard is “never quite rounded” (as opposed to “I find it quite rousing”). Harris also claimed that Sophie called it “a nice beard” and noted that “it’s a lot better now.”
FYI, Prince William spoke about his beard to reporters in Cape Town, saying it made his daughter, Princess Charlotte, cry. “Well, Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears, the first one I got tears, so I had to shave it off,” he said. “Then I grew it back. I thought, hang on a second, and I convinced her it was going to be okay.”
