Kate Middleton has been slowly ramping up public appearances since finishing her course of preventative chemotherapy, but apparently she is doing things at her own pace and is not about to be rushed into anything.

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith tells People, “You can’t say she is back…but she is coming back. She is doing it in her own way and at her own pace and carefully.”

Kate showed up for Remembrance Sunday over the weekend, appearing on the balcony above the Cenotaph war memorial with Sophie Wessex. The pair were spotted chatting about Prince William’s new beard, which a lip reader claims Kate somewhat thirstily described as “rousing.”

“I am sure she has missed participating and she seemed happy to be doing so,” Bedell Smith says. “I don’t think she has wanted to disappoint people, and even though they said weeks ago that she’d like to be there, it was only on Friday that they confirmed it. She has managed the expectations of the public very well.”

Kate announced the completion of her preventative chemotherapy treatment back in September, saying, “Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes. I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.”

As for when Kate is next expected to make another public appearance, Bedell Smith says she’ll likely be at her annual Christmas carol concert, which is being held at Westminster Abbey in December.
