Queen Camilla was forced to suddenly pull out of the Royal Variety Performance on Thursday night after being unable to shake her chest infection. The 77-year-old is suffering from "lingering post-viral symptoms" and has been ordered to rest by doctors.

According to The Sun, royal sources have said Camilla is "naturally disappointed", but said there's no cause for alarm. It comes after she had to pull out of Remembrance events two weeks ago due to the chest infection, she has also been seen coughing at recent engagements since then.

King Charles, who is battling an undisclosed type of cancer, attended the gala event by himself.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: "Following a recent chest infection, The Queen continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms, as a result of which doctors have advised that, after a busy week of engagements, Her Majesty should prioritise sufficient rest.

"With great regret, she has therefore withdrawn from attendance at tonight’s Royal Variety Performance. His Majesty will attend as planned."

Palace sources have told the publication that the decision not to attend was taken as the event runs quite late into the evening and the doctors didn't want her to be overstretched.

Camilla caught the nasty bug after returning home from her nine-day tour to Australia and Samoa.

A royal source says the Queen was "naturally disappointed to miss the evening's entertainments, and sends her sincere apologies to all those involved, but is a great believer that 'the show must go on'.
