Kmart shopper's $20 secret to luxe furniture glow-up: 'Fabulous'

'I can't believe they are the same pieces'.

While refurbishing old furniture is nothing new, it often takes a lot of time and money to achieve the right results. But Kmart fans have seemingly found a budget solution that's easy to apply and gives old, outdated pieces a luxe new look.

After testing out the department store's new adhesive panels, one customer shared her furniture upcycle.

"I've wanted to do up these bedside tables for our guest room for years. I finally got my hands on the self-adhesive white panels from Kmart so I could start my project!" she excitedly shared, alongside before and after pictures. "Paint and handles from Kmart too. I just love how they turned out."

Each pack contains five white self-adhesive panels, which you simply stick onto a surface. According to the Kmart website, the panels can be used on smooth surfaces, including ceramic and glass tiles, acrylic wall panels, mirrors, smooth-painted plasterboard, stainless metal or laminate.

Others experimented by painting the panels to match their home decor. "I've started painting them black, and they look a lot better," responded one fan.

However, not everyone's convinced the panels are all they're cracked up to be. "They are cheap looking up close but don't look too bad from afar," one Kmart shopper wrote.

"They are very hard to join up and make it look seamless," another warned, while others shared concerns that the polyethylene material could get mouldy if used in wet areas like a bathroom.
