Kyle Sandilands gives emotional on-air tribute to his 'friend' Shane Warne

Kyle Sandilands has paid tribute to Australian cricket legend Shane Warne after his shock death at the age of 52 late last week.

Alongside his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, the radio icon spoke candidly about their friendship over the years and how Shane’s name “will live on forever”.

“He’s a friend of the show, he’s really a decent guy,” he said on The Kyle & Jackie O Show on Monday morning.

“Even during hard times, he'd answer the call from us. When most big media profile people hide like cowards, Shane was straight on the phone.”

Jackie also chimed in and described the cricketer as “a great person who lived life to the fullest”.

“You kind of envied his life because he always looked happy and was always making the most of any situation,” she remarked. “I want to live that life, you know?”

“He loved life,” Kyle agreed. “He was a really good bloke. Not just what you see on TV and radio, but just one on one hanging out. Just a top bloke.”

The duo went on to play several clips from their past on-air interviews with Shane, which Kyle described as “a bit cheeky”.

In one segment, Kyle had questioned Shane if he had ever “made love whilst having music on”.

“Only during your show,” he laughed. “And I said, ‘Hang on, stop, we’ve got to stop, I want to listen to what Kyle has to say!’”.

Another clip saw Jackie ask Shane what he thought was worse: “Getting hit in the balls or childbirth”.

“I would say that childbirth has to be the hardest thing ever,” he answered.

“I know what you’re doing, you're buttering up the ladies!” Kyle replied, to which Shane said, “Kyle, I don't need to butter up ladies mate. I do alright there, thanks”.

A third snippet played during the tribute was from their interview with the sports star about his 2018 autobiography, No Spin.

“You've been in the public eye for as long as I can remember. How thick is this book? Are we talking like, an encyclopedia thickness or what?” he queried.

“It's very thick, Kyle. Very large,” Shane quipped.

Shane passed away from a suspected heart attack on Friday while on holiday in Thailand, sparking an outpouring of celebrity tributes on social media over the weekend.
