Kmart shoppers going mad for $25 Indigenous art piece: 'Beautiful'
There is a new piece of artwork at Kmart that home styling fans are racing to get their hands on and best of all it honours and recognises Australian indigenous culture.
New Beginnings is a print from young Yorta Yorta woman Holly McLennan-Brown. And it wasn't long after it featured in-store that home stylists were highlighting the beauty and uniqueness of the piece online.
"I just love this Aboriginal Canvas I got at Kmart today," Christie from Sydney shared on the Kmart Hacks & Decor Facebook page.
"It’s really big and fits perfectly on our buffet where my old mirror was. And there was info about the artist, Holly McLennan-Brown and about the artwork on the back of the canvas. I love it!" Christie added.

And it wasn't long before other members of the page were agreeing with her. "I grabbed mine as soon as I saw it online. So beautiful and such good quality," one follower said.
"Honestly the best thing Kmart has done," another added.
A few questioned whether Kmart had actually purchased the artwork from an Aboriginal artist or whether they had just produced an inspired piece, but others were quick to point out that it was a legitimate collaboration.
"Very pretty!! And good on Kmart for supporting indigenous artists!!!" one fan said in reply.
And it's not just on Facebook where the artwork is getting recognition Instagram user Sam from Addicted To Bargains shared her styling of the piece with her 327,000 followers.
Speaking to the Shepparton Advisor, artist Holly said she generally gets her inspiration from emotional and spiritual connections she's experiencing.
"Along with whatever I feel inspired by at the time," she said.
"I use my artwork as a tool to navigate my thoughts and feelings so most of my pieces express my progression through that."
The artwork represents yesterday, today, and tomorrow and is further explained on the Kmart website as Holly shares the meaning behind each element of the print.
Hopefully, this is the start of a new series from Kmart and as for Holly, other large corporations, like Vision Australia, are also commissioning her for work.
“I think art is so important because it is a great tool for expression and storytelling. Art allows us to slow down and free our headspace, while also allowing us to indulge in mindfulness," Holly told the Shepperton Advisor.
"It creates new connections and allows people to understand us on a deeper level.”
