Kmart shoppers go wild for $5 caravan must-have: 'Game changer'
One woman has completely transformed her caravan with a very unlikely product.
With a growing number of Australians choosing to travel around the country in decked-out caravans, social media users have been sharing new and inventive ways of using popular items while on the road. One woman has gone viral this week after she revealed the unique way she used a $5 product from Kmart to completely transform her caravan.
Taking to a popular Facebook group, the shopper said she purchased Kmart’s $5 yoga mat to line the cupboards, shelves and drawers in her Jayco Silverline Outback (SLOB). The fitness mat, which is typically used for yoga and pilates, is 3mm thick and made out of ethylene vinyl acetate.

“Yoga matting for all the cupboards. Game changer! Decked out my new SLOB every drawer and cupboard done,” she wrote.
She added in the comments that she had unfurled the mat in the sun so it was flat before cutting it up with a Stanley knife and a pair of scissors.
Shoppers praise ‘awesome idea’
Plenty of people took the comments to applaud the “awesome idea”, with quite a few saying it’s easy to maintain and “better than the other non-slip matting” because it stays in place when pulling things out of cupboards.
“I’ve done that as well. Love it and easy to wipe over and clean,” another added, while a third agreed, “Did the same in our motorhome, cuts down the rattles when driving too”.
“It’s the best… I have done most of my drawers and cupboards with it,” a different user said, followed by one shopper who replied, “I just did the same with our new van… It’s soooo good and cheap”.
Someone else also shared that they use Kmart’s yoga mat as flooring in the caravan during the colder months. “Warm, soft underfoot and easy to shake clean or hose down,” they responded, with another adding, “Yes so do we. When they get dirty you can just throw them out and replace them for $5. Dirt cheap”.
Not everyone was impressed, however, with one person saying that they had issues with the Kmart mat in their cupboards.
“I did that as well and ended up taking it out as some things in the cupboards kept getting stuck to it when it was hot and I hate that feeling of getting something out and the mat lifting up with it,” they said. “So I replaced mine with drawer liner mats from IKEA as it has a more fabric feel.”
Other caravan must-haves from Kmart
This comes shortly after one shopper described Kmart’s $29 portable blender as being perfect for those who can't go without their homemade smoothies while camping and caravanning.
TikTok creator Susie Gow (@susiegow) also shared a video last year listing her four caravan must-haves from Kmart “to make life easier”.

She praised the retailer’s plastic storage tubs to make organising easy in the van, a water bottle to monitor your daily intake, and a USB charging fan to cool down in the summer heat.
She also said the $4.50 heatless hair roller was essential so “your hair won’t look like s**t off the grid”.
