If you’ve ever found yourself in search of a stylish yet practical solution for storing toilet paper beside your loo, then brace yourself for some exciting news. A recent Kmart hack is doing the rounds on socials and for just $20, you can snag a one-drawer mesh organiser that's transforming the humble task of toilet paper storage into a chic bathroom feature.

While many shoppers are raving about the clever idea others - including a home organisation expert - have some reservations. Nevertheless, the mesh organiser is currently the talk of the (virtual) town.

The buzz kicked off with a post in a popular Kmart hacks Facebook group, where an Aussie shared her find with an image: “I’ve been on the hunt for a while for something to store toilet paper in beside the toilet and today I found it.”

The response was a flurry of enthusiasm, with comments like “Love this!” and “omg this is perfect” lighting up the post’s comment section.

Folks quickly saw the product as a versatile addition to their bathrooms.

“Could store girly products in there too,” one commenter noted, while another said, “I love this so much. I’ve wanted to get a small box for feminine products, and this would be perfect to sit on. Thanks for the inspo!”

But not everyone was on board. Concerns arose about whether the mesh organiser could withstand the realities of a household with boys.

“I imagine this getting dusty and dirty real quick,” one person commented.

Another shared their splash zone dilemma: “I live with three boys... that would get covered in pee.” This comment resonated with many parents of boys, resulting in a flood (pardon the pun!) of supportive responses.

"I also have boys and was thinking the same thing!" said another mum.

"Looks great, but I’d have to line the front and one side with clear plastic to stop potential stray piddle," someone else added with a laugh.

Durability was another issue on people’s minds. “This is pretty but not practical. The paper is exposed to splash, and the steel mesh will end up corroding,” one user warned.

Nonetheless, some countered that “it’s no different from having toilet rolls on a pole". "Boys just need to aim in the right spot,” one person said.

Georgina Martin, founder of Collective Order and a professional organiser, shared her reservations as well.

“While this unit ticks the boxes for aesthetics, compactness, and storage capacity, it has some drawbacks," she told Yahoo Lifestyle.

SHOP:

"The mesh material leaves toilet rolls exposed to moisture and splashes, even with good aim. The design can also attract dust, requiring regular cleaning. Over time, these factors may compromise the epoxy powder coating and lead to corrosion.”

To sidestep these issues, Martin suggests considering the Elric Toilet Paper Stacker from Temple and Webster as a more practical alternative. But with a $69.95 price tag, the stocker may cost more than most Kmart shoppers are willing to spend.
